It’s May 24th, and I want you to know that your “Holiday Cheer” blog with the sketch of the mating American Avocet dance DID become a mosaic and it’s just finished! I just love the affection they show each other and ended up making them in stained glass.
The avocets are usually seen with black and white plumage. During mating season their necks morph to a lovely amber-rust hue.
BUT WAIT–THERE’S MORE!
In-between the avocets sketch and this completed mosaic, I ran across a photo of a common purple and white rock pigeon with her white feathers blowing up around her face. It threw me into a reverie about my past life – when I was married to an international operatic tenor, spending years attending the opera and associated galas with some very glamorous ladies. Here she is, with crystals standing in for the diamonds I almost used but couldn’t part with. Someday I want to pair her with her date, a very dapper California Condor named Frank.
